The Weekend: Halloween

Some photos from a family Halloween party. Mostly of my lil cousins though!

On actual Halloween night I went trick or treating with some friends. I don’t feel too old to be doing this. I don’t feel the holiday is celebrated enough, and its a fun thing to do. So might as well while I’m still young right? Probably the last year with just friends since I’ll be 21 next year lol.

Yashica Mat 124G and Pentax K1000

Hey guys, just got two new cameras!

The first is a Pentax K1000 which will be a fun SLR to play with.  Trying out a roll already and it feels pretty good so far.

The real find though is a Yashica Mat 124G! I love TRLs and I only have a Yashica A and a Blackbird Fly (doesn’t really count does it?). So since, it just past my birthday I decided to treat myself. Unfortunately the light meter seems to have some problems when changing aperatures. It’s fine but I really didnt want the hassle of carrying a hand light meter (an unreliable one at that) anymore.

OK gonna shoot some film with these and post some photos latr!

Kodak Portra 800 with my Nikon N8008

Taken months ago with my Nikon N8008, with one of my favorite films, Kodak Portra 800. This is a start of a project I was working on about summer in suburbia but it didn’t work out because it was in the middle of march. But I might try again now that its hot.

Most are of my friends just goofing off. My friend Yee Yang is almost in all of them.

Kodak 400 VC Film with my Minolta SRT 200

Taken a few months ago with my Minolta SRT 200 for my photo class. Been trying out a lot of different professional films for the first time.

I spent this day hanging out with my friend Steven, shooting my new film with my slr while Steven played with my Blackbird Fly. He was holding that camera and looking through it the whole time, but to my surprise, he only took one picture.

Bought a Battery from Yashica Guy

God I’m pissed. So I bought a battery for my Yashica Electro 35 and guess what? It came home and on the side of the envelop was a small whole. What the hell?! Some one stole my BATTERY! I don’t even know why. Why? I don’t think that battery even works on anything besides decades old cameras…

Well I guess it will be awhile until my Yashica Electro will functioning again.
Latr guys.

The guys and their cars…

Just playing around with some Kodak Portra 800. Looking for some good night film so I decided to try it out for fun.

PX 100 Silver Shade Impressions

Ok so finally got the new PX 100 Silver Shade in the mail today and didn’t wait to try it out.

Ok so first shot… Not so great. Way too light.
I suspected that the temperature thing might have been the problem. I was at a restaurant which I wouldn’t call warm but not unnaturally cold either. Could the film really be that sensitive to temperature?

So for the next shot I put the film into my sweater to keep it warm and this is the result:

A lot bettr right! Here are some other shots I took.

I’m not gonna lie, the temperature thing is a bit of an inconvenience, but… the film is really fun to use and the results are cool so far (when they come out right). Still, I’m afraid that the temperature sensitivity and the price ($21) will scare away many from this new film.

Oh yeah, here’s the darkslide that came with the first pack.

“cuddle a porcupine”?

Just ordered some Polaroid PX 100

Ok I just ordered some of the Polaroid PX 100 Silvershade film for the SX-70 and wow, expensive. $21!

Before when they were running out and had a limited stock, I could understand the price of $25, but isn’t the new film suppose to be cheaper now that they can make it anytime they want?

I’m just going to infer/hope that this is only because they are releasing the film as “First Flush” editions. After the first wave is done and they get the sales number I really hope cheap Polaroids will be available. Or is this a foolish dream?

Anyways I just bought two packs, which seems adequate for now.

Minolta SRT 200

Hey guys, here’s a SLR I picked up from a thrift store. A Minolta SRT 200. I don’t know much about Minolta in general, but the lens it came with is ok, not as sharp as my other ones but good enough I think. This camera has an odd shutter release that pulls a shutter thing (?) over when cocked and releases it when shot. It’s hard to explain but because of that, it feels really different when shooting. My friend says it makes the camera sound cheap, but I think it gives it its own charm.

Also this camera has some pretty good vignetting, just look at the first photo.

I ran some Fuji Superia and some Ilford B&W and here’s what I got.

Overall it’s a fun camera to use when I’m bored using my Canonet or DSLR.

Latr guys!

New Polaroid Film is Finally Here! PX Film!

Finally thanks to the Impossible Project, Polaroid film is back in the form of the new PX film made for the 600 and SX-70. I’m excited about this but I think I’ll try out a pack or two first before I stock up on a load of PX.
Also, there’s an odd thing about the new Polaroid PX film, it starts out blue. When that little photo comes out of your Polaroid, it’s blue and fades to a black and white photo. Oh yeah, only black and white Polaroid film will be available, with color PX promised around summer of 2010.  I don’t really mind the blue, it really differentiates the PX films from their predecessors. You can see the film in action in the intro video for the PX film.

Also the PX film will have new “Darkslide collector cards”. Basically, you know the card that protects your film before you use it? It’s a piece of art now. The first few example were of weird quotes and phrases like, “catch a fly and give it a hug” or “feel the mood of your computer”. This could be very interesting, but I think it would be a lot cooler to add art to the collectable darkslides than just quotes, similar to how Mountain Dew had that Green Label Art thing.

Here’s a link to the new site: Impossble Project Go there for a ton of more info!

And some example shots can be seen at this website www.1854.eu.

Also here’s an interview with Forian Kaps, the Executive Director of the Impossible Project. Video from Mijonju @ circlerectangle.com

Well they are available on March 25, and I know I’m getting a few packs for my SX-70!
